Here’s a short trailer for the film I’m making with Northern Stars about photographer Stuart Roy Clarke for the National Football Museum in Manchester. It features a cracking score commissioned from British Sea Power. The final film way play in the gallery alongside an exhibition of Stuart’s work curated by him and designer Wayne Hemingway.

Since 1989 Stuart Roy Clarke has been photographing the changing face of football across the UK and beyond and has amassed an enormous archive of photos, which from May will find a permanent home at the National Football Museum in Manchester. I’m working with Stuart and my team of young filmmakers at Northern Stars to create a new piece of work that will play in the gallery during the exhibition. It’ll be made up of archive video from the last fifteen years - my first professional commission for a broadcaster was to make a profile of him in 1996 - as well as new material. And going by the image above, he’s trying to qualify for my Looking After Elvis project…

Northern Stars Get Co-Opted

All three short films from this year’s Northern Stars Academy have all been selected for the Co-Operative Film Festival and will screen at the National Media Museum in Bradford in October 2010. The NSA runs annually at the Tyneside Cinema in Newcastle, and sees sixteen 15-19 year olds making their first fiction films. I work as lead filmmaker at the Academy - see more on the Projects page.
